If a student chooses to bring personal electronic device to school and carry them throughout the day, these items are the student’s responsibility. The school district is not responsible for any personal electronic device/cell phone or accessories that are damaged, lost, or stolen while on school grounds, even if the teacher requires any of these items to be placed in a specific area. Students are expected to be able to use a school issued device for class at a teacher’s request.
Any personal technology students use when brought to school shall adhere to the school policies. Personal devices that are prohibited includ e but are not limited to: Cell phones, iPads, tablets, Personal laptops, earbuds etc.) Watches are at the teacher's discretion.
PSEO/CIS classes will be able to have personal devices
Personal Devices
7th-8th Grade: All personal devices will be turned to silent and stored in the locker during the school day. No access is allowed to the devices.
9th-12th Grade: All personal devices will be turned to silent and stored in the locker during the school day except for when you are in the commons for your lunch period, during passing times while at yout assigned lockers.
PSEO/CIS classes may be able to use personal devices to access their post-secondary content.
CONSEQUENCES
Failure to comply will result in the following consequences:
In each offense, the item will be confiscated, taken to the Main Office for the remainder of the day, a referral will be submitted and the guardian will be contacted.
1st Offense: Phone in the office until the end of the day & conference with administration
2nd Offense: Phone in the office, guardian picks it up &conference with administration
3rd Offense: Phone in the office, guardian picks it up & the phone will be in the office for 10 school days.
4th Offense: Guardian, student and administration devise a cell phone plan together. The phone may be held by administration during school days for a time determined by the team.
Administration reserves the right to retain any confiscated items and additional consequences may apply
Refusal to turn over the phone when directed will result in an additional referral and consequences.
INAPPROPRIATE USE AS PROHIBITED BY THE MN. STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE CODE OF CONDUCT
Electronic devices will be confiscated if used inappropriately (e.g. inappropriate times and locations, excessive volume, causing distractions, sending harassing messages/calls; and taking pictures/videos without consent or knowledge of the parties involved, etc.) with a possibility of referral to law enforcement.
Cameras are only to be used in school for class assignments, class projects or for teacher/principal approved occasions. Videotaping and photography without student or staff permission is prohibited. Under no circumstances should cameras (including cell phone cameras) be used in Lockerooms or bathrooms. Students are expected to comply with data privacy at all times. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action as deemed appropriate by Administration.
