Academic Integrity

SCHOOL DISTRICT POLICY 540

Fairmont Area Schools expect students to conduct themselves ethically, honorably and with academic integrity. Students are expected to submit only original work on all assignments, quizzes, tests, essays, papers, homework, etc. unless they are given permission to work collaboratively with other students by the teacher. When using the work of others for purposes of research and support, that work must be properly cited.

Consequences of cheating or plagiarism may include but are not limited to:

  1. A student will not receive credit for the work in question and may face further disciplinary action.

  2. A student may be required to complete an alternative assignment or assessment.

  3. Administration and parents/guardians will be notified of the incident by the teacher.

  4. A Minnesota State High School League Code of Conduct review will be conducted, resulting in potential athletic and activities suspensions.

  5. Administration may impose other consequences such as: exclusion from school events, dances, celebration events, field trips or other school sponsored activities.

  6. A student may lose privileges including electronics.
