Grading Parameters
The purpose of grading is to identify the level of mastery of standards, and communicate achievement of learning and performance goals to students, parents, teachers, and post-secondary organizations.
RECOMMENDED PARAMETERS FOR GRADING
Grades will reflect each student’s achievement of intended learning outcomes based on clearly identified success criteria
a. Grades will not include factors unrelated to academics,
Student Achievement will be assessed, and a grade will be indicated at the end of the learning process.
a. Effort and positive behavior choices aid students in achieving mastery of the material which must be learned.
Grading periods will focus on student progress throughout the semester. Quarter grades will be replaced with a mid-term progress report after nine weeks of learning have been completed (with the exception of quarter classes).
a. Two grading periods will be documented. Students will receive a grade at the end of Semester 1 and Semester 2.
Gradebook categories will indicate a difference in formative and summative practices
Summative assessments will make up between 80% and 100% of a student’s grade measuring academic achievement.
a. Formative and summative assessments will be included as components of a student’s final grade.
At the discretion of the teacher, students may have an opportunity to retake an assessment to demonstrate improved learning and proficiency.
Make up policies in regard to assignments, as well as timelines for work completion, will be clearly communicated and articulated by each teacher in the course syllabus.
a. Submission of late work, re-do’s, fixes, and retakes will be allowed for students to practice in order to make progress toward desired learning outcomes.
Letter grades, the grading scale, honor roll, GPA calculation, and Academic Honors will remain the same.
