Refusal to Work in Class/Follow Expectations

Learning is a cooperative process. In the end, even with the parents’ best example and teachers’ best efforts, it is the student’s willingness to work that determines how much learning takes place.

Certain classes may require a specific dress code in order to participate in class. Students are expected to report to class wearing clothing and footwear appropriate to the class expectations. Such classes could include but are not limited to: Physical Education, Welding, Building Trades, and some Science classes.

Potential consequences for refusal to work in class, refusal to dress appropriately or for sleeping in class are as follows:

  1. The teacher will contact the parent and discuss the problem.

  1. If the student’s resistance continues, referral will be made to the Student Support Advocate or designee. Possibilities at this level include:

- The Student Support Advocate or designee will contact the parent and discuss the problem.

- Referral to the Student Support Team where the adopted Pyramid of Interventions will be implemented.

- Blatant and continual refusal to work in class, dress appropriately for identified classes or chronic sleeping in class will result in Administrative intervention.
