Music

Our Curriculum

What does music look like at Shafton Primary Academy?

At Shafton Primary Academy we follow the 'Kapow Primary' curriculum scheme of learning for our music lessons. The Kapow Primary curriculum model provides  high-quality lessons, which are carefully sequenced to ensure progression throughout KS1 and KS2. We chose this current curriculum because it helps our children feel that they are musical and they develop a life-long love of music. Here at Shafton Primary Academy, we focus on developing the skills, knowledge and the understanding that children need in order to become confident performers, composers and listeners. Our curriculum introduces children to music all across the globe, inviting them to celebrate different cultures and backgrounds. Children will be taught to appreciate and respect these cultures and their music so that we can all celebrate music together. It is vital to broaden their cultural views due to our demographic and the restricted diversity that the children are exposed to.

Famous Musicians

As well as following the Kapow Primary curriculum, here at Shafton Primary Academy, we also teach our children famous musicians to expose them to an array of different genres of music. We study four different musicians throughout the year and display our learning in a variety of different ways.
