Welcome to EYFS. The class where all the foundations of learning begin. Our EYFS Provision maintained its judgement as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2019. Children in the early years are happy and settled. They have already learned routines for tidying up and listening. They behave well. This is because staff form positive relationships with both children and parents. Teachers understand the needs of young children. They make sure that they provide a wide range of learning activities. Children have daily phonics sessions. The majority of children leave the early years with the skills and abilities they need for Year 1.

Reading in Reception

We start by teaching phonics to the children in the Reception class using Read, Write Inc. This means that they learn how to ‘read’ the sounds in words and how those sounds can be written down. This is essential for reading, but it also helps children learn to spell well. We teach the children simple ways of remembering these sounds and letters. Ask them to show you what these are.

The children also practise reading (and spelling) what we call ‘tricky words’, such as ‘once,’ ‘have,’ ‘said’ and ‘where’.

The children practise their reading with books that match the phonics and the ‘tricky words’ they know. They start thinking that they can read and this does wonders for their confidence.

We read to the children, too, so the children get to know all sorts of stories, poetry and information books. They learn many more words this way and it also helps their writing.

Below you can find some videos that will help you understand what phonics is and how it is taught and also how to pronounce sounds correctly when you are reading with your child.

Banksy

Another one of our famous artist's are Banksy. The children have been learning about what type of artist Banksy is and have a look at the art piece 'Girl with a Balloon'. The children have recreated a replica of the art piece by bubble painting and then drawing on the little girl and sticking on the balloon once the paint was dry.

Welcome back!!

Welcome back everyone; I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and I wish you all a Happy New Year!

This half term the children will be learning about the Polar Regions and Woodlands through various woodland stories. We will be looking at The Gruffalo story, The Gruffalo’s Child, Polar bear, polar bear and We’re going on a Bear Hunt. These will be linked to all areas of our learning. The children will also be learning about different animals linked to our Science topic ‘Amazing Animals’. Take a look below at the changes to our classroom environment.

Run, Run, Run as fast as you can! You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man!!

The Reception children had a lovely visit from Mrs Bun. She needed our help to find the Gingerbread Man she had made this morning but he had jumped out of the oven and ran away. The children helped Mrs Bun tell the story of the Gingerbread Man and then went on a hunt around school to see if we could find him.

Christmas Time!!

The children in Reception have had a lovely time celebrating Christmas in school. They have made Christmas cards, calendars, Christmas tree biscuit, made magical reindeer dust, had a special visit from Santa and taken part in their first Christmas play. The children also enjoyed their Christmas party playing party games including Pin the nose on Rudolf.

Starry Night by Van Gogh

One of the famous art pieces the children learn about is Starry Night by Van Gogh. The children have learnt about the way Van Gogh painted the art piece and then we had ago at making a representation of the art piece using chalks and pastels. We think they look great!

Remembrance

The children in Reception have been learning about Remembrance Sunday. We have been learning about what the poppy represents and why Remembrance Sunday is so important. The children have really enjoyed the various Remembrance activities they have done.

Autumn Art Work

The children in Reception have been learning about the Autumn season as apart of their Understanding of the World learning. The children have been looking at the different colours the leaves change to during the Autumn. We have then been creating Autumn leaves suncatchers using red, yellow, green, brown and orange tissue paper and stuck it onto clear plastic sheets to create their leaves.

The Colour Monster

Since starting school in September the children in Reception have been looking at the Colour Monster story. This story helps children identify different feelings and emotions. The children have been discussing the different colour monsters and what makes them feel different ways, such as happy, sad, calm, loved, scared and angry. During continuous provision the children have been creating their own colour monster with different coloured paint and marbles.
