Year 06 Transitions Events
The aim of our Summer School was;
To bridge gaps in learning
Reduce the anxieties of the transitions process
Familiarise students with the site and staff
Allow students to make friends ready for September
The Summer School ran across five day starting on Friday 27th August and ending on Friday 3rd September.
Students were given the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, which included Maths and English, daily. This helped to identify gaps in learning which informed the planning for teachers when students started in September but also helped teachers to reduce the gaps initially with the daily lessons.
In English, students focused on different aspects of travel writing and reading. In these lessons, students got to analyse a range of travel websites with a focus on how holiday companies use persuasive language to entice customers to book holidays. In Maths, the students were given the opportunity to apply and deepen their mathematics skills. They got to explore the necessities of budgeting.
In Personal Development, students got to develop essential skills, such as speaking, creativity and leadership. Students worked in teams to design and build a new toy from recycled materials. They explored the concept of taking an initial idea through to creating a final product.
