Wednesday, 16 July 2025 | Wicked Theatre Trip | A group of excited students from Bexleyheath Academy were treated to a spectacular evening in London’s West End this week as part of a special rewards trip to see the award-winning musical Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.
The trip was organised to celebrate the fantastic achievements students have made this half term. Whether through academic progress, excellent behaviour, outstanding effort, or contributions to the school community, those invited earned their place through commitment and hard work.
Students were captivated by the dazzling production, which tells the untold story of the witches of Oz and explores themes of friendship, identity, and courage. For many, it was their first time seeing a live West End performance, making the experience all the more memorable.
Ms Delver, Vice Principal said: “This trip was a way of saying well done to students who consistently go above and beyond. They were completely enthralled by the show, and it was great to see them experiencing the magic of theatre together.”
The visit to Wicked is just one of several rewards trips Bexleyheath Academy has run this half term, aimed at recognising student success in a meaningful and memorable way. The school believes that positive reinforcement, alongside a rich cultural experience, plays a key role in inspiring students to keep striving for excellence.
As the academic year nears its end, the school continues to champion its core values, celebrating achievement, creating opportunity, and building unforgettable moments.
Congratulations again to all the students who took part and here's to more magical rewards next term!
Friday, 11 July 2025 | Thorpe Park Rewards Trip | On Friday, we had the pleasure of taking over 150 students on an unforgettable Rewards Trip to Thorpe Park, recognising their outstanding commitment to school life. These students were selected for achieving 100% attendance and collecting the highest number of rewards points this year, a true reflection of their dedication, positive attitude, and consistent effort.
At Bexleyheath Academy, we believe it’s essential to celebrate those who are always getting it right, the students who show up every day, work hard, and contribute positively to our school community. The Thorpe Park trip was not just a day of fun, but a well-earned thank you for making the most of every opportunity school has to offer.
From adrenaline-pumping roller coasters to shared laughs with friends, the day was a huge success and a brilliant way to acknowledge the hard work and resilience of our students. Staff were proud to see our students enjoying themselves and representing the school so positively throughout the day.
This is just one of several experiences we’ve planned to reward and motivate our students. Next week, we have a number of exciting trips and enrichment activities lined up, giving even more students the chance to engage, grow, and be recognised for their achievements.
Well done to everyone who earned their place, we’re proud of you!
Monday, 07 July 2025 | Year 07 Science Museum Trip | Our entire Year 07 cohort had the exciting opportunity to visit the Science Museum in London as part of their year group trip, a day filled with discovery, curiosity, and connection.
Trips like this are about much more than just leaving the classroom; they are an important part of school life that help to build a sense of belonging and unity within a year group. Going on trips with your year group is a fantastic chance to bond outside of the classroom, develop friendships, and feel more rooted in their school community.
The Science Museum offered an impressive range of exhibits that brought science to life in dynamic and interactive ways. Students explored galleries such as "Wonderlab", where hands-on experiments helped them understand forces, light, and motion, and "Making the Modern World", which showcased incredible scientific breakthroughs that have shaped the modern era. The space exploration section was a particular highlight, sparking conversations about astronomy, engineering, and the future of science.
Throughout the day, students were able to apply classroom learning to real-world contexts, seeing key curriculum topics such as energy, materials, and innovation in action. Teachers and staff were incredibly impressed with the thoughtful questions students asked and their enthusiasm throughout the visit.
The trip was a wonderful reminder of how powerful learning beyond the classroom can be. It not only reinforced students’ academic understanding but also supported their personal development, teamwork, and confidence.
One of our Year 07 students, Rose S shared: "Our visit to the Science Museum was a fascinating experience. I particularly enjoyed the medicine gallery, where I learned about the harmful effects of smoking on the body, especially the lungs. I also found the skeleton exhibit incredibly interesting, as it helped me understand how our bones connect and support us."
Monday, 30 June | Barcelona Trip | Year 10 students embarked on an unforgettable cultural adventure to the vibrant heart of Catalonia, Barcelona! This wasn’t just a trip; it was a journey that brought learning to life, enriching students’ understanding of the world through a powerful boost in cultural capital.
Over four action packed days, students were immersed in the sights, sounds, and soul of a city where history, creativity, and culture collide. From the surreal beauty of Gaudí’s Park Güell to the towering majesty of La Sagrada Familia, students saw first-hand how architecture tells the story of a people. They strolled the historic streets of La Rambla, explored the artistic genius of Picasso, and stepped back in time at Poble Espanyol, a living museum of Spanish heritage.
But the learning didn’t stop there. Students felt the energy of Barceloneta Beach, navigated the modern buzz of Maremagnum and Las Arenas, soaked up the atmosphere of the legendary Camp Nou, and found moments of calm in Parc de la Ciutadella.
Experiences like these go far beyond the classroom, they build confidence, curiosity, and a global mindset. By engaging directly with another culture, students developed a deeper appreciation of art, history, language, and lifestyle, the very essence of cultural capital, which plays a vital role in broadening horizons and preparing young people for a connected, multicultural world.
And if that wasn’t enough, they achieved an incredible 90,279 steps, that’s 56.7km of exploration, discovery, and adventure! This trip didn’t just create memories, it created meaning.
Thursday, 26 June | Go Ape Trip | On Thursday, 44 of our Year 11 students traded classrooms for canopies as they embarked on an unforgettable adventure at Go Ape! Surrounded by the great outdoors, students took on the exhilarating treetop challenge course, conquering wobbly bridges, daring Tarzan swings, and high speed zip wires with remarkable bravery and enthusiasm. It was more than just a fun day out, it was a chance for students to build confidence, strengthen friendships, and test their limits in a completely new environment.
The day was filled with laughter, encouragement, and moments of real achievement, as students pushed themselves outside their comfort zones and showed outstanding resilience. Whether they were navigating an obstacle high above the ground or cheering on their peers from below, the teamwork and spirit on display were inspiring. We’re incredibly proud of everyone who took part, you truly captured the essence of adventure, challenge, and support. What a brilliant way to celebrate the end of an important chapter!
Monday, 23 June 2025 | Tate Britain | This week, our Year 8 students had the exciting opportunity to visit the Tate Modern for their annual year group trip, an experience that went far beyond just a day out. Exploring one of the world’s most renowned contemporary art galleries, students engaged with a wide range of thought-provoking artwork, from bold installations to powerful paintings and sculpture. For many, it was a chance to see in real life what they’ve studied in lessons, bringing classroom learning to life in vivid, inspiring ways.
But the trip was also about so much more than art. Year group experiences like this are vital for building a sense of community, independence, and shared discovery. Spending the day exploring with their peers allowed students to strengthen friendships, gain confidence navigating a public cultural space, and create lasting memories. Trips like these play a key role in developing cultural awareness, critical thinking, and personal growth, all while having fun together as a year group.
We have some student feedback to share:
“I never realised how powerful modern art could be until I saw it up close — it really made me think differently.” – Mia
“It was so fun being out with the whole year group. We don’t always get to mix with people from other classes, so it felt special.” – Callum
“The Tate was amazing! I’ve never been to an art gallery before, and now I want to go back with my family.” – Aaliyah
Wednesday, 18 June 2025 | This week, select students had the fantastic opportunity to visit the renowned Miskin Theatre, located on the North Kent College campus, for an immersive experience into the world of Performing Arts beyond the BTEC curriculum offered at Bexleyheath Academy. Student selected were students that had expressed an interest in pursuing drama in their further studies or as a career.
The visit was designed to broaden students’ understanding of the diverse pathways available in the Creative Arts and to inspire them to consider how their talents can be developed at a higher level. Throughout the day, students took part in a comprehensive tour of the Miskin Theatre facilities, including the set design workshops, costume department, and rehearsal studios gaining valuable insight into the behind-the-scenes elements that support professional performance.
A highlight of the trip was a practical Drama workshop, where students were able to engage with performance techniques in a professional setting. This was followed by a surprise opportunity to watch a dress rehearsal of “Fairytale Courtroom,” the theatre’s latest student-led production, giving them a real sense of the creativity and commitment involved in performing arts at post-16 level.
Many students left the day feeling inspired not only to continue exploring acting, dance, and music, but also to take ownership of their academic progress to ensure they meet the entry requirements for further Creative Arts study. They asked thoughtful questions about pathways into the industry, course options, and how to best prepare for future auditions or applications.
This trip was a valuable experience that encouraged students to envision what a future in the arts might look like and reminded them of the importance of dedication, creativity, and self-expression.
Friday, 13 June 2025 | Sky Studios Trip | On Friday, 13 June, a group of selected Year 10 Drama and Media students, along with Year 12 English Literature students, had the incredible opportunity to visit Sky Studios for an unforgettable behind-the-scenes experience.

Thursday, 14 June 2025 | Year 09 Greenwich Observatory Trip | This week, over 300 of our Year 09 students took part in their annual year group trip to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, spread across three exciting days. This visit is a key part of the Year 09 curriculum focus on localism, the idea of understanding and appreciating the history, culture, and significance of the local area.
Localism encourages students to connect with their community and surroundings, helping them to understand how local places contribute to national and global history. By studying the local area, students develop a stronger sense of identity, pride, and responsibility toward where they live.
The Greenwich Observatory is one of the most important scientific sites in the UK. It is home to the Prime Meridian Line, where the world’s longitude is measured from and played a central role in the history of astronomy and navigation. Students had the opportunity to explore the origins of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), learn about the movement of celestial bodies, and understand how timekeeping and space exploration have shaped the modern world.
For students living in Bexley, just a short distance from this world renowned site, the trip highlighted the incredible historical and scientific heritage right on their doorstep. It was a powerful reminder that global impact can begin with local places.
A truly enriching experience that brought learning to life beyond the classroom!
Wednesday, 21 May 2025 | Year 10 Rewards Trip | Matilda | While many secondary schools pause all supra-curricular activities during the national examination period to focus solely on exam year groups, at Bexleyheath Academy we remain committed to the continued learning, development, and enrichment of all our students, including those not yet sitting exams.
This week, we were proud to reward a group of Year 10 students who have consistently demonstrated commitment, hard work, and a positive attitude towards their education. As recognition of their dedication, they were given the opportunity to attend a cultural enrichment trip to see Matilda the Musical in London’s West End.
Experiences like this are incredibly valuable. They not only broaden students’ cultural horizons, but also enhance their understanding of literature, performance arts, and storytelling, key elements of the English curriculum. Additionally, cultural trips foster a deeper appreciation for creativity and the arts, help develop social and emotional intelligence, and build aspirations by exposing students to new environments and opportunities.
At Bexleyheath Academy, we believe that rewarding effort and maintaining a well-rounded educational experience, even during exam season is key to nurturing engaged, confident, and ambitious learners.
Please see the feedback from our students after their experience:
"I was amazed by the skills of the pianist in the background that brought the story to life." - Temi
"This is the second time I have been on a trip to see a show in the theatre with the school and it is not something I have done outside of the school and I think it was great. When I am older and have money to go out, this is the kind of thing I want to see all the time." - Olu
"I really loved this trip. The singing and dancing were absolutely stunning." - Lilly
"A one of a kind show. Thanking you for taking me." - Hassan
Visits During May 2025 | We aim to provide our students with opportunities to visit a variety of places of worship throughout their time at Bexleyheath Academy. These visits are designed to broaden their understanding of different religions and cultural practices. During a recent visit to Christ Church, students impressed Reverend Wyatt with their thoughtful questions and genuine curiosity about the beliefs and lifestyle associated with his faith. Such experiences are invaluable in helping students develop respect, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for the diverse faiths represented within our school community.
Tuesday, 25 March 2025 | On Tuesday, our Year 13 Psychology students went on a school trip to a Revision Booster Session held by Tutor2U at the Vue Cinema at Westfield Stratford. The aim of the trip was to help students prepare for their upcoming exams. The students arrived at the venue with another 300 students from different schools with the Tutor2U team being really engaging and keeping the energy high throughout the day. The day was split into four sessions:
Session 1: Research Methods
Research Methods has been described by AQA as an area that students tend to make mistakes on during the Summer exams, so the presenters broke down key concepts such as the types of data and statistical tests with many practice questions and feedback throughout.
Session 2: Issues, Debates and Approaches
This session helped make sense of tricky concepts like reductionism vs holism, nature vs nurture, and the comparison of approaches. They gave students tips on how to remember the different comparisons and how to apply these to longer essays and making the synoptic link clearer, which will help across all papers.
Session 3: Writing Effective Essays
Students looked at how to structure the perfect 16 mark essay with not only real student responses and how to improve them, but also giving evaluation topics that can be used in the exam with making a clear link that evaluation is everything.
Session 4: Up a Grade!
The final session focused on exam mindset, avoiding common mistakes, and pushing answers to the next level. It helped the students realise that it is not about working harder, but working smarter.
By the end of the day, the students were feeling more confident and prepared about their exams. Overall, the trip was a brilliant experience for the students with each session targeting what they needed and the presenters made the content feel more manageable.
Thursday, 13 March 2025 | This week, our Year 10 students have an incredible opportunity to watch Macbeth live at the Globe Theatre, bringing their GCSE English studies to life in the very setting where Shakespeare’s plays were originally performed. Experiencing Macbeth on stage allows students to fully immerse themselves in the drama, language, and themes in a way that goes beyond reading the text. Seeing the characters, emotions, and conflicts unfold in a live performance will deepen their understanding of key scenes, enhance their analytical skills, and provide valuable insights for their exams. Theatre trips like this not only support academic success but also inspire a love for literature and the arts, making learning both engaging and memorable.

Year 12 Psychology Trip | Our Year 12 Psychology students visited Canterbury Christchurch University this week.
Ms Jones, Teacher of Psychology said: "As part of our Psychology A-Level course students are expected to develop an understanding of Forensic Psychology. To ensure that that knowledge is contextualised and explored in depth we wanted our students to get the opportunity to re-enact features of the justice system in a way that will enrich their Forensic Psychology knowledge. During the trip, they attended a number of different lectures and completed some hands-on investigations.
This trip allowed students to get a better understanding of what a Psychology/Social Sciences degree might offer them as well. In additional, this trip helped guide students who are curious about careers in Forensic Psychology and inspire those who might not be sure what field work they hope to go into. It was a great trip that was loved by all."

Year 12 Trip | Sky Studios Elstree | Our Year 12 Business and ICT students had an incredibly opportunity this week to visit Sky Studio.
The trip was an opportunity for our Year 12 students to get a taste of day-to-day life in one of the world's most modern film and TV studios, Sky Studios Elstree. Our media students gained first-hand experience of a state-of-the art film and tv studio, which gave them rich examples they will be able to refer back to in their studies. Additionally, our business students witnessed the inner workings of a multinational organisation, in an exciting and constantly evolving industry, providing them with concrete examples they can apply to their course.
From the very start students had their creativity and organisational skills challenged. Split into the various roles of a production team, students had to plan a production for them to later film in one of Sky's 'Extended Reality' studios. In short order, Students had to master the remote controlled cameras, LED sets, lighting rigs, editing software and wardrobes made available to them by this state-of-the-art studio. The time allocated for filming was tight, so students had to think fast, work cohesively and express themselves bravely to complete their objectives before the filming deadline.
Before a final screening of the students' work, students were given a tour of the studios and the chance to learn about the career journeys of some of the studios' team. This was the students' chance to explore how their strengths, interests and characteristics might shape their future careers if they were to find themselves in the film and TV industry.
Lastly, students enjoyed a final screening of their day's hard work. Sat in a private screening room to watch their productions, students celebrated each other's hard work, creativity and bravery in front of camera, to bring an exciting day of firsts to a wrap.
