I (Mary) have taken this post from one of Kirk Weisler's T4Ds: "When I first published “The Dog Poop Initiative” (we have this book in our DTS library by the copier) a leadership book that really seeks to inspire others to take initiative, my own belief was that the number one reason people didn’t take initiative was simply this: They didn’t think it was their job. They didn’t make the mess.
Over time I came to the conclusion that there is actually a much bigger reason people don’t take the initiative: Peer Pressure.
Fear of what others will think. It is more than just not taking the initiative, it’s when people are not passive about not taking the initiative. In other words, if they see you about to do something needful (that they chose not to do), they will pressure or seek to shame you in some way into not doing it. Or they will express an excuse as to why they didn’t do it themselves."
What is the first thing that comes to mind that you would like to do?
BTW: Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
