We have wrapped up our short unit on SBAC prep and we have switched back to the Zones of Regulation curriculum using what we know about our zones colors and applying that to big, medium, and little problems.
Our goal is to teach the students that some issues they face in the school day; ex. not getting to play the game you want, missing a preferred activity, forgetting a pencil, are not problems that need to disrupt our day and are actually considered little problems. These problems can be solved quickly and only involve one or two people. Medium and big problems are issues that involve more people and take more time to solve.
This week, students learned about these categorizes and how problems fit into these areas based on which zone you may feel. Next week, we will give the students a scenario and they will need to decide if they are big, medium, or little problems.
The students will also start to hear this language in class so they can transfer over the skills to their classroom as well.
