All students have access to the school network using their assigned network user ID and password. The network can be used for saving files, allowing mobility from one computer to another, and file sharing.
Check our website, http://www.newschoolva.com, for the school calendar, weather closing information, school handbooks, the HS course catalogue, events, activities, and more.
PowerSchool is available for students and parents to track progress in individual classes. PowerSchool user IDs and passwords are assigned when a student first enrolls at the school. You can access PowerSchool on the school’s homepage or by going to: https://newschoolva.powerschool.com/public.
Students must limit printing while at school. They may share or e-mail research sites, assignments and papers directly to their teachers. However, if a teacher is requiring a hard copy of the assignment, it should be printed at home. School printers should only be used when permitted by the teacher or librarian and only when accessed from the school’s computers.
All students are reminded that with privilege comes responsibility. Students in violation of our Acceptable Use Policy will be handled per the Disciplinary Protocol. Consequences may include losing access to school equipment and resources. Adherence to the following guidelines constitutes acceptable use of The New School technology:
Students will use only the equipment and resources that they are specifically authorized to use, and only for the purpose designated.
Students must respect the privacy and intellectual property of others means, meaning to never:
Enter any personal folders or read anyone’s private files
Move, rename, change, delete or copy any document or file that does not belong to you
Copy or transfer any copyrighted materials to computers, documents, or presentations without proper citation
Students may not tamper with configurations of equipment or the network. This includes, but is not limited to, interfering with:
Software, such as computer settings, application configurations, network protocols, and e-mail accounts
Hardware, such as cables, wires, computers, servers, printers, projectors, DVD and VCR players
Students will not use The New School’s Internet access and computer equipment inappropriately. This includes but is not limited to:
Accessing or processing pornographic material, inappropriate written material, or files that could be dangerous to our local area network
Accessing non-educational sites (such as game sites, chat rooms, You-Tube, or instant messaging, etc.) during class time without permission from the teacher
Downloading or uploading any games, music, movies and/or software without express permission from the Technology Director (Janis Trizna)
Students will remember that when using school technology to communicate with the outside world they are representing the school; they will speak and act accordingly. This includes using appropriate language that is not obscene, abusive, insulting or threatening.
During lunchtime and ET, students may play (but not download) games, check their email, and surf the Internet (appropriate sites only).
Students will not eat, drink or be careless around any of the computers, cameras, DVD, VCR players, etc. Students are liable for any school equipment they break, damage, or lose.
Students understand that faculty may create and enforce additional guidelines for technology use, and agree to respect those guidelines.
