09. Gmail and Google Drive

All students are assigned a username that follows the network user ID protocol of first initial, last name, and a password. The first time students sign into GMail, they will be asked to change their password. It is important that they keep track of their password since they will be the only one who knows it.

Many teachers email students and share documents directly through Google Drive. All teachers may be contacted through GMail to answer students’ questions and to provide further explanations. Students are expected to check their GMail account daily. Departing students must be aware that their GMail and Drive accounts are no longer accessible, so students should make alternate arrangements for those documents they wish to keep.

Google Drive (documents) is a free word processor. Not only does it allow users to create documents, slide presentations and spreadsheets, but it also allows work to be easily shared with others. Students are encouraged to create new documents and upload their old documents into Google Drive where their documents can be filed, organized and accessed from any computer with Internet. Teachers accept shared written work through Google Drive, and some teachers edit and grade papers through Google Drive. Students are required to become fluent in the use GMail, Google Drive, Google Calendar and other Google features and to make them their primary education applications. Mobile apps are available.
