Community at The New School is very much organized and directed by students, with the help and guidance of faculty sponsors. Students can propose community events and activities quarterly or for the year. Those events and activities approved by the community can happen during or after school or on the weekend. The faculty reserves at least three hours of school time per quarter that can be used for student-proposed events and activities. The school also provides the students with a yearly community budget of $750. Student proposals should include their event/activity budget.
Generally, community proposals need to be submitted in writing to Shannan Danish, Community Coordinator, at least four weeks prior to the proposed event. Proposals for larger, more extensive events such as trips or the prom should be submitted months in advance.
