If you make your own videos, whether it is yourself on camera, a screen recording of your computer screen, or downloading and editing from other sources, having your own YouTube channel is a clean and easy way to share your videos with your students.
Once your channel is approved by EUSD, everything you add to it will also be approved automatically.
YouTube videos stream seamlessly with apps such as Google Classroom, Forms, iBooks, and more.
Here is an example of a YouTube video embedded in a Google Assignment. Click to play.
Steps:
1. Log in to your EUSD Google Account. In the upper right by your profile picture tap your Google Apps (3x3 dots) and find YouTube.
2. Go to YouTube and tap Sign In.
3. At the login window, at the bottom tap Create account.
4. IMPORTANT: You want to choose For myself. You cannot create a business or ‘brand channel’ with an educational domain. (You can set up a Brand Account with a private Gmail: see HERE)
5. In the upper right, under your profile picture, you can click on Create a Channel to create your first channel. It will use your name and your profile picture from EUSD Google.
At this point, you can start uploading videos.
Uploading a video is remarkably simple. Go to your channel and tap upload. Follow the instructions, copy the link.
When you return to YouTube later from your Google Apps, you an access your channel, YouTube Studio, or go straight to upload a video by tapping the camera icon.
Optional/Later
Further Settings:
1. If you want to customize your channel, on the left is a large circle with your channel name and view your channel on YouTube.
2. Tap the blue Customize your channel button on the right. Here you can add channel art, modify your description, and contact information, and such.
3. Privacy. While in Customize, tap the gear on the right. The Channel Settings window will open. Keep everything as on/private, and Customize layout on. If you want to allow comments, click Show Discussions tab BUT from the dropdown menu choose Don’t display until approved.
3. Important setting: For Kids. Go to YOUTUBE STUDIO, the Dashboard is on the left under a circle with your profile picture: tap Settings. Tap on Channel, then Advanced, then click Yes, this channel is made for kids.
This will engage protective compliance settings which you can read all about when you click that button.
4. Unlisted. While you are in Settings, go to Upload defaults in the left sidebar. These settings will apply to all newly uploaded videos. Scroll down to Visibility and choose Unlisted. Unlisted videos and playlists can be seen and shared by anyone with the link. Your unlisted videos won’t appear to others who visit the "Videos" tab of your channel page. They won't show up in YouTube's search results unless someone adds your unlisted video to a public playlist. Hit SAVE.
YouTube Studio:
In the left side bar, tap My Channel. Then tap the blue YouTube Studio Button on the right. Here is where you can do many things, but Making Playlists will streamline your experience. Whole playlists can be approved by EUSD through aHelp Desk. (see Mr. Lee’s Video below about Classroom Youtube and Playlists). To get back to your channel from Youtube Studio, tap your Profile Picture at the top of the left sidebar.
This completes a basic set up. For more details see the resources listed below.
TIP:
Teachers can divide and conquer the work, create their channels and share the links. Teachers can create Playlists.
