Essential Question: What do citizens need to know about the principles of the constitution, and how can we use those principles to be better citizens?
PBL Summary: In this mini PBL unit, students will choose a constitutional principle to research, and connect that principle to the responsibilities and rights of modern citizens. Students will then present their findings in a clear and concise way, specifically a PSA
Essential Question: How can we apply geometric principles to create accessible emergency structures?
PBL Overview: Working in small groups, learners will design a temporary shelter that is safe and ADA accessible. Learners will follow the design thinking protocol, need to use rational number equations, conduct internet research on the geometric principles in architectural design and ADA compliance, and determine unknown side lengths using the pythagorean theorem. They will create plans, or a small scale model, with proofs explaining their thinking and present their findings to an audience.
Essential Question: How can we use design thinking to create a resource that would be valuable to Brian in facing the conflict of the book Hatchet?
PBL Overview: In the real world, designers often create experiences or products based on stories or themes. This project will give students the opportunity to apply design thinking principles to create a solution to a problem that Brian faces in the novel Hatchet. Students will dive deep into the content of the novel by analyzing key events, character development, and themes. They will ask questions such as: What are the most important moments in the story? How can we represent the protagonist's journey in a meaningful way?
