About the Abode

---------- The central Abode ----------

The Abode: A complex multidimensional labyrinth-like structure situated outside time and space as we know it, or perhaps between it. The structure includes a multitude of architectural elements from the major planes and epochs, a well as "outside" places and gardens hovering between realities.

The Wizards Tower: A huge structure that seems to exist in several realities at the same time. It seems to lend its solidity from this multi-planar existence. From the viewpoint of the places where it extends to, it will appear like a ghost castle, ruin or phantasm. Even though it extends out into different realities, it is a part of the central Abode.

The Great Library: A structure amassed around, the centre of the Abode and the Wizards Tower, with annexes reaching out in all directions. Part of the Abode's library extends into a library in the Great Empires plane. How it is stocked and what it contains no one knows, but it seems to have a majority of the written material from the multiverse connected to the Abode.

The Kitchen: An auxiliary part of the Abode with doors to the Wizards Tower, the Library, the Townhouse as well as to other central parts of the Abode, it is also the hub of the main storage areas. The kitchen itself is a huge structure with high beamed roof and contains cooking equipment and tools from numerous realities, everything from futuristic ovens to open fire-pits are available. There is an orangery and a greenhouse connected to the kitchen that extends into an idyllic sylvan setting. The place is inhabited by a colony of squirrelcats and a great macaw (referred to as the JubJub).

The Hyperborian Annex and The Castle: One of the largest annexes to the Abode is the Wizards Castle in Hyperborea. It's well integrated into the Abode itself, part of the living quarters are in the Abode, and Part in the Castle. Apart from the armoury, training halls, courtyards, astronomic tower and largely uninhibited living quarters, it also has barracks, stables, kennels, orangeries and orchards. A wonderful place to start a refreshing campaign against any of numerous barbarian tribes in the vicinity (according to Alma and Lir).

The "Labyrinth": The old nexus of the Abode. This is where the portal to the Shadow Earth is (and several other portals to shady places), the door is usually barred and protected by magic seals. A locked iron door that is the portal to a world referred to as "the Reich and the Crown" is adjacent to the polished black portal that leads to Shadow Earth. The portals are placed in a long corridor with numerous other forbidding looking entrances, all are more or less locked and bolted with both physical and magical means, some are even sealed off so you cant get near the portals themselves.

---------- Other places directly connected with the Abode: ----------

The Sylvan Pavilion: A beautifully placed large villa in English/Roman style situated in the Sylvan world's equivalent to England. The portal from the Abode opens up to a pair of heavy oak door inside this villa. It's situated in truly sylvan setting with woods close by and some villages not too far away. The style is mixed and the current structure built on a millennia old Roman foundation. There is about everything one can want, large walled gardens, orangeries, patios, and a large thermal pool, surrounded by large parks ending in the wild woods. Apart from kitchens and several large common rooms, there are also several apartments surrounding the main complex and each accessible from the main hall. There is a large staff of locals, who either live on the premises or comes from the nearby villages.

The Shrine: Situated in the mountains on the Nihon/Korean side of the south Sino-Nihon border on the "Imperial Earth". The portal is in a storage room in the annex of the shrine. From the beginning it was run down and abandoned, but since Opal moved there, great efforts from the locals, with help from the Abode, have restored it to its former neatness.

The Avalon Cottage: A rustic cottage placed on the Island of Avalon and giving access to this Arthurian world. The portal is through a wardrobe in the master bedroom. A great retreat when you want to be alone studying ancient tomes or just enjoying a good book.

The Town House: It's front doors connects directly to what is called Steampunk and Biopunk Earth, the Town House itself seems to be partially part of these realities as well. The connection seems to be unstable though, and fluctuates between several different time-lines of near identical realities. It is also possible to set up a connection with "our" world from these portals (there is a "window" that seems to give a constant view of Chelsea Physic Garden on the second floor according to Tomomi).

The Castle: As described above, it is connected to the Hyperborian Annex. It is an impressive fortified structure, its builders are unknown and the age is probably ancient. The central part of the castle is held aloft on four giant basalt pillars, which according to legend was formed with dragon-fire in ancient times.

The Thule Lodge: A dismal place, a cold and draughty stone castle with high towers clinging to a barren cliff over an ever raging ocean shore, with some luck you may come there during the Arctic summer with it's long days, but even then it is usually cold and draughty in the caste. Although it's so dreary, it is a nice place to contemplate (once you get a good fire burning).

The Lewd Unicorn: A large tavern situated in the Great Kingdom, or to be precise, the city of South Haven in the south of what previously was the Great Kingdom. The beer is drinkable, the food edible and the clientele an enjoyable mix of adventurers, informants, travellers, rogues and other shady people. The innkeeper (who is not the owner) has a table reserved for some inhabitants of the Abode, who he considers as his most important patrons (this also seems to be on order from his elusive boss). The first connecting portal was in the cellar, and the innkeeper is convinced (through his thick-headedness and magic) that it is just a secret passage leading to the wharfs. When more denizens from the Abode started to visit they made another passage to a blind door in a valley not far from the Lewd Unicorn.

The Refuge: Is a temple with surrounding building in a classic Mediterranean setting in the Classical Age. The portal to the Abode is inside the sanctum.
