Calandra - the Siren

Calandra - the silent Siren

"Now the Sirens have a still more fatal weapon than their song, namely their silence. And though admittedly such a thing never happened, it is still conceivable that someone might possibly have escaped from their singing; but from their silence certainly never."

Franz Kafka "The Silence of the Sirens"

Biography: Calandra is thought to be one of the original sirens given wings by Demeter to search for Persephone. When her sisters lost in a contest with the muses, she escaped with some of her sisters, but ever since then she carries a deep sorrow for her sisters who lost their feathers and was banned to to an island, where mariners who heard them would loose themselves in their song, and die, as her sisters where incapable to provide for them.

She have the ability to select who can hear her song. She will walk the battlegrounds in ethereal form, or stand beside deathbeds and sing her songs to lead the souls of the dying to where she can not follow, that is the nature of her psychopomp ability. When she sings for the dying, she will sing their souls to rest, the end of her song marking their passing. Humans will often see her as a lark, or possibly as a sparrow, wren or other small bird, sitting by the head the dying.

And on the battlefields she once met and befriended Opal...

Whose call she answered as she turned up in the Abode nobody knows, but it seems she was very aware of what was happening to Opal and came to take care of her and her child. She was the only one allowed to be by Opal's side when Candra was born, and almost the only one allowed to handle, or even hold, Candra during the months thereafter. Whenever Opal sleeps (as she does for extended periods) she will take care of Candra, protecting her as if she was her own child.

Gemstone of choice: Smoky quartz with golden rutile

Other notes of importance: She is the one who learned Opal sing.

She is one of them who knows how powerful her silence can be. When she sings for the living she have the power to bind both body and soul in a fatal lethargy, if she so wishes, or turn them to her slaves, living to hear her voice, with her silence those who once heard her will die.

Due to the fact that she likes to sleep in a soft bed, but all to easy tear the sheets (and mattresses) to shreds with her talons, she usually have big mufflers on her feet when sleeping, but is very embarrassed if somebody sees her with them on.
