UPDATE: Misa's Fugue Package is Headed to Rwanda

Post date: Jul 1, 2013 3:35:05 PM

This past week, the Misa's Fugue team shipped nearly 50 DVDs and printed copies of the educator's guide to the directors of the Educator's Institute for Human Rights. They will be transporting the materials with them later this month to Kigali, Rwanda to share with the teachers participating in their Third Summer Institute, which works with educators in this genocide-affected country. In 1994, over a one hundred day period, nearly 1 million Rwandans were killed by their own people in a horrible example of why genocide education and awareness is still needed in the modern world.

The Institute is run by two Regional Education Corps/Museum Teacher Fellow colleagues of Producer Jennifer Goss. Both Mark Gudgel and Drew Beiter are history teachers in the United States who recognized the importance of reaching out to educators in this area of the world to form bridges over the topic of human rights that affect all of the world's citizens. The duo is excited to include Misa's Fugue in this year's Institute and appreciates the donation of the Misa's Fugue team and educators in Fleetwood Area School District to print the guides and cover the shipping of the guides and DVDs. Internet access is still somewhat limited in areas of Rwanda, thus necessitating the printing of the guides that are normally available via the Misa's Fugue website.

According to Goss, "This is a wonderful opportunity to share Frank's story with Rwandan educators who sadly know all too well the impact of genocide. We hope that it will be a useful resource for them to use with students in their classrooms whose families, like Frank's, were changed forever by hate and intolerance. The work of the EIHR is amazing and we feel privileged to share in a small part of it." We encourage you to visit their site and learn more!
