Misa's Fugue Shown at Scottsdale Community College

Misa's Fugue had its third screening in Arizona on Friday, April 12 as the closing public event for Scottsdale Community College Honor's Program's "Genocide Awareness Week." The week featured a variety of lectures, films and displays related to various genocides that have occurred throughout the world. The event was organized by Honor's College English professor John Liffiton and brought in over a thousand community members to the College to participate in these events. The Misa's Fugue team was honored to be a part of this first annual event.
The well-attended screening was followed by a Q & A with the film's producer, Jennifer Goss. Goss
remained in Phoenix after the Phoenix Film Festival for this screening and a next-day workshop for area teachers that was sponsored by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. All teachers who attended either the Friday night screening and/or the Saturday workshop were given a copy of Misa's Fugue. In total, over 100 teachers received the film during its week-long stay in the Greater Phoenix area.
An interesting connection also resulted from the screening. Event organizer and SCC Honors College English professor, John Liffiton, knew that his father was a veteran of the United States Army's 71st Division. He learned Friday night through Misa's Fugue that not only was his father a veteran, but he was also a member of the regiment that liberated Gunskirchen - something he never spoke of during his lifetime. John was shocked to discover this and hopes to reconnect with other liberators to learn more about the experience from his father's perspective.
Additional donations were also received from other members of the Phoenix community. Valuable suggestions were also made for future networking opportunities. It is the hope of the Misa's Fugue team that the film will return to the Phoenix area at a later date, so be sure to keep apprised of its journey via our mailing list and these blog updates.
