Throughout the course of the film's journey, we have shared with you several documents which have surfaced that were previously unknown to Frank and the team. Although this has now happened numerous times since the project began, we have not ceased to be amazed at what has turned up as people learn about the project. The latest document to be uncovered was found in the Czech Republic last month by Frank's cousin, Igor.

Igor is the son of Kurt's sister, Marianne. The letter was written by Kurt shortly after the liberation of Ohrdruf, and tells of his escape and his subsquent concern about Frank's fate. Although Kurt did not realize it at the time, Marianne, had passed away during the war. The letter was placed in a family file and Igor did not realize it's existence until it was shared with him last month.

The letter reads:

Stadtilm, Thüringen

Marktplatz 34

My dear Marianka, dear Lada!

I am greeting all of you from my whole heart and telling you that I am alive and healthy. I escaped on April 5 (on the birthday of my dear good boy Jenda [Misa’s brother] from the Nazi hell, I was hiding in a forest for 8 days, and I was saved from certain death by the 3rd American Army on April 12. I am harrowed by worrying about my golden Misa, whom I had to leave in Auschwitz on 26th October 1944. Everybody liked him there, also those SS murderers, and they promised me that nothing would happen to him. But I know well enough how much one can rely upon their promises. I heard that before the camp was evacuated, Misa was alive, and I am trying to hope that he was saved by the Russian Army. A week ago I sent a message about myself to the Prague radio and 4 days ago to the London one. I don’t know whether it has been processed. I am busy with medical care for aliens, and I am in regular contact with the American armed forces. I have physically recovered. Perhaps I will be able to return home in about a week. I beg you, look for Misa, please. I think all the time how wise and independent he was, and of the eventuality that he could report to you himself – if he survived that catastrophe.

Jiri, Mimi, Freda [husband of Magda], Magda [Kurt’s and my mother’s sister], Marian and Anita [daughters of Magda and Freda] had a chance to survive. I am concerned about Freda, he was not too well.

Embracing you and your dear boys warmly

Yours Kurt
