Frank Grunwald Speaks at Yom Hashoah in Memphis

On Sunday, April 27, Frank spoke before a crowd of over 400 people at the Memphis Jewish Federation's 52nd Annual Yom Hashoah Commemoration. The event was held at the Memphis Jewish Community Center and included a presentation of colors by local Jewish war veterans, a candelighting ceremony and presentation of awards to local students who entered the the Memphis Jewish Federation's Holocaust essay contest.

Yom Hashoah is the annual Holocaust & Heroism Remembrance Day. It began in Israel in 1953 and is held in the spring of each year. The date is aligned with the Hebrew calendar date of the 27th of Nissan which falls in April to early May on the Roman calendar. This date was chosen because its proximity to the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising which occurred on April 19, 1943.
