Grunwald & Gaston: Together in Virginia Beach

On Sunday, January 19, Director Sean Gaston was reunited with Frank "Misa" Grunwald at the Virginia Festival for Jewish Film. This was the first time the two viewed the film together in public, a monumental event for the Misa's Fugue project. They were also joined by Liberator Bill Juksch. Holocaust Commission Director Elena Baum facilitated the Q & A and was instrumental in helping to bring the film to Virginia Beach.

According to Gaston, "It was a honor to finally, after all this time, be in the same public place with Frank to see this movie." Producer Jennifer Goss had just given birth to her daughter and was unable to make it to the event, but was excited that the film had returned to her new home state. "Elena and the Tidewater Jewish Community have been so supportive of Misa's Fugue. I couldn't think of a more perfect place for Sean and Frank to speak together," Goss shared. Gaston continued, ""Being able to sit at a table next to Bill and Frank is something I'll remember for the rest of my life."

The film screened in the TC Roeper Center on the campus of the Tidewater Community College. Over 400 people were in attendance for the film and the Q & A that followed. The audience provided stimulating questions and the group was able to discuss many aspects of the film outside of what was shown on the screen. Gaston enjoyed the festival and said, "The festival was great! The venue was incredible! I especially enjoyed seeing all the young faces in the audience. They were a big reason why we made the movie."

The Holocaust Commission of Tidewater's United Jewish Federation graciously provided photographs by Laine Rutherford and taped the Q & A which you can view below:
