My perspective on many things has altered as a result of hearing Inez's story. Although there was discrimination against women at the time, she managed to organize and lead large-scale rallies for women's rights while also working as a lawyer and even serving in WWI. The legacy of Inez is evidence that women can accomplish anything with style and grace while making radical changes.
I wanted someone who stood out from the competition when I first started the selection process. Inez Milholland accomplished this. Just after reading a quick overview of her accomplishments, I knew I had to depict her narrative. As a women's rights activist, lawyer, and academic throughout her life, Inez inspired a great number of people. She will always be remembered for leading 8,000 women through Washington, D.C.'s streets in the 1913 Women's Suffrage Procession, An iconic emblem of independence for women across the country is the picture of Inez leading the march while riding a white horse and wearing a crown and long white cape. I was motivated to pick her personal story because I regarded her as a representation of strength, leadership, tenacity, intelligence, and elegance.
