No, I do not think one image can capture a weekend. This can be proven by the many different people and places we saw. One picture wouldn't do justice to the mix of emotions I experienced discovering a major city for the first time. From experiencing the lively scene of Chinatown to exploring the unique environment of Little Italy, each part of the city had its own story. It's pretty obvious that one picture couldn't capture the entire essence of New York City over a weekend.
The most difficult aspect of this painting was using something other than a paintbrush to make this piece. Using a hotel key card to create this painting presented a fun challenge and made my marks perfectly unperfect using a key card also made it easy to keep my perspective aligned with the vanishing point.
What inspired this work was the size of the city itself. I have never been to a large city where the buildings have made me feel so small. Along with the size of the buildings the lights and streets seemed to never end also provided me with inspiration. Together the lights, buildings, people, and perspective of the city gave me the idea for this painting.
