Project Purpose:
To understand how a line can be used to create a three-dimensional form
To create a sculpture that considers balance and repetition, variety and emphasis
To consider where artists find their inspiration
When using materials like reeds there is bond to be variety. By using the reeds I was able to make 3 different sculptures that all showed variety by their different shapes and sizes. To show emphasis I made tighter loops within the middle of the lager loops. At first I was trying to curl the reeds to create emphasis. This method did not end up working for me. The reeds would crack and become flaky. After some trial and error I created 2 small loops within 3 much bigger loops I thought would bring emphasis to the middle.
Before we started our sculpture unit I thought that sculptures were only made out of clay or mable. When we were told we were working with reeds I had absolutely no idea what I was going to create. But when working with different materials you find new ways to make art which you may have never thought of before. I also understand now that sculptures aren’t just made in our likeness but can represent so much more.
