Essential Question: In what ways can my art illustrate personal milestones and growth and serve as a visual narrative, capturing the development of my life and reflecting on the transformative experiences that have shaped me as an individual
What is baroque art?
Baroque art is a style that emerged in the 17th century, characterized by suspense, drama, and emotional intensity. Baroque art is recognized for its emphasis on details, lively arrangements, and a focus on contrasting light and shadow. Baroque art often conveys a sense of movement and emotional intensity.
Some famous examples of Baroque art include Gian Lorenzo Bernini's sculpture "Ecstasy of Saint Teresa," Caravaggio's painting "The Calling of Saint Matthew," and Peter Paul Rubens' masterpiece "The Descent from the Cross." These works showcase the dramatic and expressive qualities that define the Baroque style.

Reflection
While working on this artwork, I decided to use acrylic paint to give the canvas a more layered look and to highlight the facial features, expressing strong emotions. Once finished with the piece, I used oil pastels to make the lines on the hands look softer, creating a smooth shift from dark to light. For the background, I added painted lines following the circles to show movement. However, when I stepped back, I realized these details were distracting from the main focus. To fix this, I used colored pencils to blend the dark blue background and the bright orbiting lines, creating a more balanced and polished appearance.
This artwork showcases my ongoing practice in portrait painting, a focus I've consistently explored in my sustained investigation. The subject features experimentation with unique colors blended into the skin tones. The background underwent several changes as I experimented with different compositions to effectively convey my message. Peer feedback played a crucial role in guiding my revisions and ensuring an accurate expression of my intended message to the viewer. Overall, the piece illustrates my dedication to practice and experimentation.
My upcoming pieces will continue to convey emotions and deeper meanings, inviting viewers to interpret the messages. The next artwork will explore my childhood and how it shaped who I am today. While maintaining a focus on a main subject in compositions, I may experiment with landscape painting to examine the impact of my childhood environment.
