(5” x 7”)
A graphite drawing based on the work of Ansel Adams Mount Brewer and Bullfrog Lake, Kings Canyon National Park, California 1925.
Using the side of my pencil I was able to create rough lines that were light in value. I continued to refine and add darker values on top of the originally messy base. I began with the background of the photo starting with the mountains and creating a rough sketch for them that I would go back to refine later. I then moved to the tree line surrounding the lake in the photo and began to recreate the values shown there. Finally, I arrived at the foreground placing my darkest values there I worked on key elements of the photo and added the greatest amount of detail there.
After finishing my drawing I believe that given the size of the paper I was able to recreate the positions of the photo well. Along with simplifying the photo when providing key details.
