Crossing into Tennessee on I-40 from Arkansas means you are crossing the state line on a giant bridge that spans the Mississippi river. The “Welcome to Tennessee” sign is on this bridge and I assume that stopping to take a picture with that sign is frowned upon. So, here's an image I plundered from Google......

12/23/2018: This was an “indulge dad for a moment” activity. We discovered that there was a Dukes of Hazzard museum in Nashville. If you were ever a fan of the show, it’s a worthwhile stop and it’s free.

12/24/2018 The Lane Motor Museum. This is an exceptional collection of mostly European cars and motorcycles and displayed in an equally wonderful and beautifully restored old bread factory.

12/26/2018: The Adventure Science Center in Nashville. I have really enjoyed going to all these different science museums because it’s always fun to see how many things are the same, but even better, what’s different. At this one, they have this great rig that is supposed to simulate the challenges of walking in a low gravity environment, a.k.a. space. The concept here is that if you try to take a “normal” step it’s going to send you UP and not forward like it does here on Earth.

I have really enjoyed going to all these different science museums because it’s always fun to see how many things are the same, but even better, what’s different. At this one, they have this great rig that is supposed to simulate the challenges of walking in a low gravity environment, a.k.a. space. The concept here is that if you try to take a “normal” step it’s going to send you UP and not forward like it does here on Earth.
Hard to portray what’s happening here, but they have this really elaborate indoor climbing structure that takes you into a peak that is several stories above the roof of the building and provides some pretty killer views of the city. I managed to wiggle myself up there far enough to take these pictures.

12/26/2018: Right next to the Adventure Science Center is Ft. Negley. This is the remnants of the largest inland fort of the civil war. It was also never directly attacked at any point in time during the war. Sadly, this would be our only Civil War site visit during our stay in Tennessee as the National Government Shut Down has prevented us from visiting a lot of place on our list. Ft. Negley is a State Park, so we got a break with this one.

12/26/2018: Just a short drive from the Adventure Science Center and Ft. Negley, there is a full scale recreation of the Parthenon. Not exactly a great “learning” experience, but it was neat to see.

12/28/2018: Webster defines a “Hermitage” as, “a secluded residence or private retreat” and this is Andrew Jackson’s. Why this can’t be Andrew Jackson’s “Home”……or “Plantation’…..or “farm”, I’ll never know, but this is Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage. They claim that they still preserve maintain 98% of the entire parcel of land that Andrew Jackson owned and kept. They also claim that virtually everything in the house is Andrew Jackson’s actual belongings and not replica’s. Furniture, paintings, newspaper collections, cutlery, bedding, it’s all his actual belongings……and you can’t take pictures of ANYTHING once you enter the house.

12/29/2018 Tennessee State Museum. Of all the State museums we’ve visited, this one takes top honors for sure! If you are ever in Nashville, do not miss this one. It is positively massive and they have spared no expense in making it a fantastic journey through the history and culture of Tennessee. I REALLY enjoyed this place!

This Tennessee wood artist had some incredible works on display here. This “Tortoise and the Hare” rocker was most certainly the centerpiece and there was no denying its beauty. Once again, grace had to be drug away.

12/29/2018 Olive & Sinclair Chocolate. We have made arrangements to tour an “old world” chocolate manufacture. This is their stone roller that turns the cocoa beans into the chocolate liquid (Called “Liquor”) that is later sweetened and allowed to cool into the chocolate that we all know and love.

They allow you to try the liquor in its raw form as that is how people like the Aztecs would have enjoyed it centuries ago. Personally, I think it’s some sort of running joke because it is WAY beyond terrible! Here’s some facial expressions that should give you a hint as to what the kids thought….

01/01/2019 This was our last full day in Nashville and I had been eye-balling this old Limestone Railroad bridge support many time during my walks with Bear. I was heck-bent on getting on top of it for a picture. Now is the time I tell you that it was in the middle of a river. The amount of energy spent on taking this ONE picture does not correspond to the quality of the picture, but Grace had fun anyway.
