New Mexico

Capulin National Monument is an extinct Volcano the juts out of the barren landscape of Northeastern New Mexico like it was dropped there by aliens. It’s really quite remarkable how out of place it seems. It was a pretty darn cold day and we walked the trail down to the bottom first which was probably a mistake. Being sheltered from the wind on all sides probably gave us a false sense of security from just how cold it was going to be along the trail around the rim at the top. We froze during the walk around the rim, but it was a neat place to visit.

Side Trip with no pictures: The tiny,tiny, TINY little town of Capulin, NM just happens to have a taxidermists/game meat processor that operates out of an old gas station…and it just so happens to be right next to the Campground we stayed at. Grace and Dylan REALLY wanted to see inside, so we trotted over there to check it out. There is a small piece of me that thinks that they enjoyed that visit more than the volcano. The owner was super nice and was happy to show us everything he does and answer all our questions. They certainly learned a lot.....heck, *I* learned a lot!
