3/12/2022 Andrew Johnson National Historic Site. What an amazing way to preserve a structure….build another structure around it! Here they have Andrew Johnson’s original tailor shop protected from the elements with another building around it. Nicely done National Park Service, nicely done!
This is not inside the tailor shop, but in another preserved building on the grounds.
3/12/2022 Snow tends to be a pain in the neck with RVs and we usually try to avoid it as much as possible. Today, that didn’t work out for us, but it certainly has a beauty that I cannot ignore.
3/13/2022 Our first day in Great Smoky Mountain National Park. LOTS of people talk about this place and LOTS of people LOVE this place, but I am really not sure what to expect. The thin layer of snow adds a certain degree of beauty that I’m glad we get to witness.
It also led to us finding plenty of roadside “ice features”.
As Junior Rangers learn, you are NOT supposed to disturb or collect artifacts while inside a National Park. Grace discovered something (we think) and she documents it so she can report it to a Ranger later that day.
What is it about water wheels being beautiful? Such an “industrial” object of their era, yet today they are photographed as objects of beauty all over the world. I am not one to argue the point either because I share that appreciation for them.
I really enjoyed these icicles too. The water was running over the wheel, but the wheel was not turning. It was causing the water to splash at an angle and these icicles grew at the same angle the water was splashing.
3/14/2022 Back in the National Park and what do we see? A helicopter is moving mass quantities of supplies from somewhere to the Visitor Center at the top of the park. Reports we are hearing is that they do this at the beginning of the season because it is so much “stuff” that it’s just easier than trying to move it on the roads through the park in multiple trucks.
Ummmm……I don’t think that is how stairs are supposed to work, but I’m all for thinking outside the box….I guess.
I know it’s the Great Smoky Mountains and all, but this is taking things a tad too literal!
You missed him in that previous picture, didn’t you?! I think this is our first Elk sighting since leaving Colorado.
Oh hey, did I mention there was a helicopter? Yeah, I like that kind of stuff.
Oh, you still want to look at helicopters? Okay, here you go! …..fun fact: It’s a Sikorsky “Sea King” which is the same type of Helicopter than transports the President.
