There are two things that Grant Hates: Getting wet (rain, showers, etc) and wind in his face and the position of the flag should clue you into the current status of the wind…..well…….yeah, sorry about that Grant.

It should be called “Maid of the You’re Gonna Get Soaked” or “Maid of Deluge of Water”!!!! The poncho things are nice and all, but be prepared to get S O A K E D!

6/14 thru 6/19/22 I’m going to break from my typical format of dating these pictures for a minute. We are in the Detroit area for the specific reason of seeing The Henry Ford and Greenfield Village. We had originally planned 1 full day at each location, but everyone got sick, so we extended our stay at the campground and then bought a Henry Ford family membership so we could come and go as we pleased. Then, we juggled going to these attractions based on who was feeling well and who wasn’t. So, these pictures are not in any particular order.

Having been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and seeing them walk around with REAL versions of these with REAL jellyfish inside them gave me GREAT appreciation for these!

If you’re NOT a car person, you could/would easily walk past this and think “huh, that’s an old car” and keep moving. HOWEVER, this is a Bugatti and not just any ole’ Bugatti (if such a thing exists), but a Bugatti Royale. This could be called the world’s first “Supercar”. These were so expensive and so exclusive that just being “rich” wouldn’t cut it. It was purchased as a bare chassis and then the buyer had it sent to a coach builder to build a body and interior for it to their own specs. When all was said and done, a completed Royale would cost around $50,000 in 1929! That’s around $900,000 in 2022 dollars. There are only 6 (yes, SIX) of them left in the world and this is one of them.

This one hit home for me. Iconic car that was driven by an iconic driver (Bobby Under) at an iconic race (Pikes Peak Hillclimb) from our home state, that I have attended MANY times…..and the road is DIRT in this display, just the way it SHOULD Be!!!

We are walking through the Henry Ford Museum to get to Greenfield village and passed by this hallway that leads to that DC-3 that I was marveling at earlier. The view down this chandelier lit hallway, with the arch that framed in the aircraft caught my attention in a big ole’ hurry! …..and yes, I made everyone wait while I took some pictures.

We’ve returned to the glass blowers to see what they are making today and this was a good one to watch. See the bowl sitting on the table on the right side of the picture? They call that the “Candy Cane Bowl”. You can probably see the individual red and white twisted stripes all around the bowl. In the background, they are making the beginnings of those stripes by bringing together a large hunk of red glass and another large hunk of white glass (molten of course). The two glass blowers slowly walk away from one another while one is twisting the entire thing with an electric drill to put the twist into it. They do this until they were about 20-25 FEET apart from one another and the entire molten string of twisted glass is about as think as a pencil.
