After accidentally revealing her vagina online, Cricket has fled to the only place she can think of: a closed winery in which people who go viral are granted a safe haven from the outside world. Cricket finally feels safe... until the property's handyman, Heath, walks in on her in the shower. After accidentally flashing him, Cricket swears to be more vigilant. Despite this, she can't help feeling attracted to Heath. When they learn that the winery's owner is broke, it's up to the entire crew to brainstorm how to save their sanctuary together. 

Recently, I've seen Pippa Grant's book all around my bookish prescense on the internet. After getting sent a few of her books for free, I knew that I had to check her work out to see what I was missing out on. And boy am I glad I did! Thank you Pippa Grant for the gifted copy of this book. 

This is one of the most unhinged books I've ever read. The characters are all nuts in the most lovable ways and Grant defintely doesn't hold back when it comes to bizarre circumstances. The meet cute between Cricket and Heath is insane (he walks in on her in the shower and she punches him in the face). There's a lady (Pip) who wanders around mostly nude the entire book. There's a chonky cat that's addicted to human food and gets stuck in the cat door at least eighteen times. Everyone who lives in the vineyard has gone viral for one thing or another. Literally every part of this book stretches the imagination and begs the reader to let go of reality in exchange for having a grand ol' time. 

From the start, I loved Cricket. She is boundlessly optimistic, even though she is scarred by all she's gone through. It's unfortunate that she accidentally flashed the internet while she was at work and had to flee for her life, but one can't help but sympathize with her. The internet is truly an awful place and people have no right to treat her as they do all because she accidentally did something that people didn't like. Her family situation is also rough, but I’m glad she got solid closure surrounding them. 

Heath did alienate me a bit early on. I found myself a bit uncomfortable with his lustful thoughts and the way he kept trying to make himself hate Cricket. I know he's exhibiting the grumpy half of the grumpy x sunshine trope, but that doesn't mean his thoughts had to be that harsh all the time. Despite not always liking him, I adore him as a father. His daughter, Lav, is definitely my favorite character in this book, and the way he interacts with her is so wholesome. 

All of Lav's antics are so endearing. Between her cat and dragon slayer phases, it's hard to chose what version of her I liked best. She's such a sweet girl with the brightest imagination who is also well beyond her years. I adore this little girl, and I'm excited to see more of her in future installments of this series. 

The growth that Cricket goes through while surrounded by this community is so inspiring. She finds her own little found family with all these people who have gone infamously viral before her. The support group at the vineyard was one of my favorite parts of this book and it shows that we can all get through tough things when we are surrounded by those we love. 

Pippa Grant is definitely known for her humorous stories. There are elements of her humor that I love (such as the punny chapter titles) and parts I didn't (such as the focus on nudity centered comedy and Pip's hard of hearing bit). There are portions of this book that I think only some will find hilarious, but there are certain segments that are perfect for every rom com reader. 

Overall, "You've Got Hate Mail" was a great introduction into Pippa Grant's work. It is one of the most unhinged books I've ever read but that's a great thing, because I can't say I've read another book quite like this one. The characters are so lovable, especially Lav and Cricket. I am a big fan of the themes surrounding the internet, mental health, and having ample time to move on. Cricket and Heath are cute together, though it took me a solid portion of this book to be persuaded they were a good fit. I love the vineyard's vibes, and I really look forward to continuing this series and seeing all the familiar faces again and again!
