First and foremost, graphic novels are indeed different than comics. They also aren't just illustrated novels either. Graphic novels tell a complete narrative through the words and the illustrations. The illustrator is just as much the author of a graphic novel as the writer, maybe even more so. Without the pictures, the story wouldn't be coherent. I have been eating up graphic novels and they have become one of my favorite genres to read. Many people think that graphic novels are for people who are too lazy to read "real books". That obviously isn't the case; take me for an example. Even if you have no interest in reading them, please don't shun them. People put just as much effort into making them as any other novel.
