A fifty-page short story that introduces a dystopian world in which people are sent to the Mating Grounds to find an eligible partner to breed with.
Cora and Ronan are two new adults that have been selected by their zones to be sent to the Mating Grounds, in which they have a chance to find true love before a match is forcefully selected for them. They both worry that they won't find their other half, but when they lay eyes on each other, their doubts are put to rest.
I honestly only embarked on this one to get bonus points in a dystopian reading challenge I'm taking part in. It was a freebie on Amazon and only fifty pages long, so there was very little risk involved.
The concept of this world is honestly interesting; this short story just wasn't it. It lacked many details, sped through time, and didn't focus on any one thing for more than a few paragraphs. The lack of detail and descriptions makes it feel like a story that a new/young writer wrote.
It saddens me that most short stories these days seem to be an excuse to read smut in a short period of time. We only knew these characters for a few dozen pages before they were having sex with one another and promising each other their entire worlds. It was weird though, because even the sex scenes were sped through at a rapid pace. This was such a bummer, as this story could have been interesting if it was expanded on more.
Overall, "Chosen for You" is a short introduction into a dystopian world in which the government chooses a partner for people if they don't. I thought the concept has potential, but this short story intro was so poorly written that I have my doubts if the rest of the series would be worth pursuing. Hopefully the author took more time with their full-length works, but who really knows.
