Day 6

Today is a day of exploration. It is a day to allow them to explore all the possibilities of the materials they have access to. The materials become their constraints so they need time to explore, experiment and begin to see what could be.

When they are RESPONSIBLE for setting their goals/outcomes, when they make the DECISIONS, and when they SHAPE their process/pathway….that’s student AGENCY

Exploration of Constraints

Group Exploration

One crew member exploring MakeCode and micro:bits while others explore cardbaord for rover

Divide the Work

In this group each member took on a tech tool. One is using LEGO SPIKE Prime, one is using micro:bit, and the other is exploring Makey Makey

Sharing Learning

When a new discovery is made everyone in the group wants to see what was created. Sharing is pivotal to this step.

Motor Skills

While we can get all wrapped up the latest digitial technology, don't forget the power of technology of hand tools and materials. Often times this is more exciting and engaging than a keyboard and screen. Additionally, remember that most students no longer do any of this type of play or making so please supervise, guide, and help them.

Maker Cart of Exploration

Make materials readily accessible. While it is awesome to have robotic kits, physical computing components and more, be sure you allow space for basic materials or technologies that open up pathways along with the cool new technologies available.

Resources

This is a wonderful tool to help think through new ideas and roadblocks. This can be used as a guide for your conversations with students.

Also, it might be good to have a copy for each group when they get stuck and need to rethink ideas.
