OCIA is the order of rites for adults wanting to enter the Catholic Church.  This faith formation process involves an immersion into the Catholic faith with instructions on the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation). The attendee is introduced to the Christian lifestyle which  is to follow Jesus Christ as the "way" and to encounter Him through the eyes of the Catholic faith. The attendee commits to participation in the instruction sessions on the Catholic faith, attendance at the Holy Mass, several OCIA rites, a prayer life and Q & A discussions. OCIA is more than a mere academic approach to the faith or scholastic study of a religion. OCIA is an immersion into the Christian faith through an encounter with Christ.
