Welcome to the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA)[1], a very special rite in Catholicism intended for those inquiring about joining the Catholic Faith. OCIA involves participation through an open invitation where you worship and encounter Jesus Christ through the eyes of the Catholic Church. It is a beginning conversion as well as continued preparation for conversion into a particular way of life. Perhaps you chose OCIA because you are thinking about entering the Catholic Church for the first time, or you are just inquiring about what the Catholic faith believes and teaches. You may be here to complete or need some of the Sacraments provided by the Catholic Church.

[1] OCIA – After Vatican II this formation process was referred to as RCIA (Right of Christion Initiation for Adults)
OCIA presents Christianity as being a lifelong “walk in faith” journey. This “walk” encounters Jesus Christ. As a lifelong journey with Jesus, some have called it a pilgrimage towards God or “The Great Adventure.”
The book as a compendium provides some essentials taught by the Catholic Church. It was written with the intent of assisting those who want to join the Catholic Faith. This book introduces the participant to “The Way” which is a Christian lifestyle of having a relationship with Jesus by coming to know and follow Him and helps you understand what it means to partake in active participation in the Christian way of life. Such understanding only comes through faith, grace, love, knowledge, direction, experiences in faith development, conversion, true worship, and the sacraments.
Regardless of where you are coming from, or how much you know about the faith, what is important is that you are here! You may be learning for the first time about God the Father, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, the Holy Trinity, Christianity, the bible, the sacraments, and the Catholic Church. You shall learn all about this including the essential Rites which eventually lead to the sacraments of initiation and full entrance into the Catholic Faith.
There is much to learn and experience. The intended outcome occurs with the help of God’s grace and your commitment to the journey to allow for faith development so, you can make an informed decision about entering the Catholic Church. Towards the end of the preparatory period, it is customary to enter into a discernment process to see if you are ready to enter the Catholic Church. The final decision is some time away; when
you will be invited to enter the Church at Easter Vigil (Saturday evening before Easter Sunday) and be received into the Catholic Church with the sacraments of initiation.
