Prayer of St. Francis

Christ

"We adore Thee most holy Lord Jesus Christ, here in all Thy Churches, which are in the whole world, because by Thy holy cross, Thou hast redeemed the world"
~ Francis of Assisi

Charity

"Charity is the soul of faith, makes it alive; without love, faith dies."

~ Anthony of Padua

The Devil

"The devil is afraid of us when we pray and make sacrifices. He is also afraid when we are humble and good. He is especially afraid when we love Jesus very much. He runs away when we make the Sign of the Cross."

~ Anthony of Padua

Discipleship

"Christians must lean on the Cross of Christ just as travelers lean on a staff when they begin a long journey."

~ Anthony of Padua

Eucharist

"...In this world I cannot see the Most High Son of God with my own eyes, except for His Most Holy Body and Blood."
~ Francis of Assisi

"What wonderful majesty! What stupendous condescension! O sublime humility! That the Lord of the whole universe, God and the Son of God, should humble Himself like this under the form of a little bread, for our salvation ...In this world I cannot see the Most High Son of God with my own eyes, except for His Most Holy Body and Blood."
~ Francis of Assisi

Forgiveness

"As for certain lesser faults, we must believe that, before the Final Judgment, there is a purifying fire. He who is truth says that whoever utters blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will be pardoned neither in this age nor in the age to come. From this sentence, we understand that certain offenses can be forgiven in this age, but certain others in the age to come."
~ Francis of Assisi

God

"Attribute to God every good that you have received. If you take credit for something that does not belong to you, you will be guilty of theft."

~ Anthony of Padua

Grace

"We are formed by environment and grace, by politics and prayer, by church and conscience. All God's creatures conspire to teach us as well. We stumble. We stutter. We rise. We are lifted."

~ Anthony of Padua

Humility

"The spirit of humility is sweeter than honey, and those who nourish themselves with this honey produce sweet fruit."

~ Anthony of Padua

Journey, The

"Christians must lean on the Cross of Christ just as travelers lean on a staff when they begin a long journey."

~ Anthony of Padua

Mary

"Seek refuge in Mary because she is the city of refuge. We know that Moses set up three cities of refuge for anyone who inadvertently killed his neighbor. Now the Lord has established a refuge of mercy, Mary, even for those who deliberately commit evil. Mary provides shelter and strength for the sinner."

~ Anthony of Padua

Prayer

"He prays best who does not know that he is praying." ~ Anthony of Padua

Soul, the

"The life of the body is the soul; the life of the soul is God."

~ Anthony of Padua

Waiting

"Lord, help me to live this day, quietly, easily. To lean upon Thy great strength, trustfully, restfully. To wait for the unfolding of Thy will, patiently, serenely. To meet others, peacefully, joyously. To face tomorrow, confidently, courageously."

~ Francis of Assisi

Virtue

"The soul is perfected by knowledge and virtue."
~ Thomas Aquinas

"Happiness is secured through virtue; it is a good attained by man's own will."
~ Thomas Aquinas
