About the Classes
Below are some brief explanations about the classes offered:
The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is a process used to initiate individuals into the Catholic Church as new members.
The classes and meetings provided are given on a weekday night and on Sunday. They are structured to provide essential information about the Catholic Faith and to answer your questions about the Catholic Faith. The classes convey essentials on what the church teaches about God, Jesus, salvation, eternity and the Sacraments. The main source used in the classes are the a learning guide, the Bible and Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC).
The OCIA process as a whole consists of lectures, discussions, activities, immersion into the faith as well as Rites which are administered as the candidate progresses through the OCIA program. The immersion aspect involves the individual to attend Sunday mass along with Sunday Catechesis discussions as well as beginning a life of prayer and discern the call from God.
Take home assignments are provided as one way to provide some metrics regarding the individuals participation and progress. Other metrics are considered with an emphasis placed on attendance and participation in the immersion into the faith. Those attending are expected to demonstrate a commitment to a life of prayer, scheduled activities, events, and most importantly involvement at Sunday masses and Sunday study times. Attending RCIA is a new life process in so much as anticipated growth should be desired by the individual. This makes attendance and participation very important to the process.
