What is the Purpose of Confirmation ?
The Sacrament of Confirmation is one of the three sacraments of initiation (Baptism Confirmation and Holy Communion). Those who afre preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation you are referred to as a candidate or more formally a confirmand.
What is the purpose of the Sacrament of Confirmation?
The purpose of the sacrament of confirmation is to more perfectly be bound to the church by completing the graces received in baptism so as to be strengthened by the receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
God does everything with a purpose. God created with a purpose. He has a purpose for you and this includes a life with him through the sacraments. The purpose of Baptism was to give you supernatural life so that you can move forward to seek God and to walk with God.
Confirmation provides the grace of God’s gifts to you so that you may begin to go out into the world as a disciple of Christ. God does not send his disciples out empty handed. He wants to walk with you and show you the way. Therefore He sends you out with His Holy Spirit upon you, along with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts are not silver and gold, but something more precious, because when using these gifts, you are drawn closer to God as well as lead others to Him.
