2019 Wilmette President to Evanston Mayor

On October 21, 2019 the President of the Village of Wilmette sent an official letter to the Evasnton Mayor expressing the Wilmette concern about NU text amendment proposal.

"The request from Northwestern University to the City of Evanston seeking to change the City's zoning laws applicable to the athletic facilities along and between Isabella Avenue and Central Street in Evanston has given rise to considerable and legitimate concerns for both Evanston and Wilmette residents who live in close proximity to these facilities."

The letter includes an incorrect assumption on the part of the President: The City of Evanston never sent out notices to either Wilmette nor Evanston residents about the proposal. It was an Evanston resident who, already at the beginning of May notified John Adler of the City of Wilmette about the proposal and provided documentation about the history of conflict between the two cities and NU regarding similar ordinance issues. Also, it was the same resident who alerted the Wilmette homeowners who would be most affected by the proposed ordinance change.
