It’s Drama Time!
“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.”
From Shakespeare’s As You Like It, spoken by Jaques
2023 will remain, I am sure, etched in the memories of our thespians. It is the SYF Central Judging year for Performing Arts for secondary schools, and it is also the year when schools return to strut their stuff on stage after a few years of being in quarantine due to the pandemic.
Our very own Springfielders started their training from 2022 for the big day. Throughout the year, they dedicated their time during the CCA days and school holidays, fine-tuning their craft and honing their skills in the run-up to the big day. The final result that we saw on stage was a combined team effort between the cast and also the various backstage crew. Hundreds of man-hours were invested by the wardrobe mistress, props team, lighting crew, the cast, and, of course, the teachers and instructors. What we witnessed on stage represented just the tip of the iceberg, and despite the numerous challenges faced, the show went on. Kudos to everyone involved for their outstanding performance, which earned them the Certificate of Accomplishment!
Below are some sharing by the cast involved:
“Being in SYF was the best experience I had during Drama. I was glad I managed to be in the SYF as I got to spend most of my time with my Drama friends and I had so much fun despite the challenges we faced.. For our efforts, we were awarded the Certificate of Accomplishment. Although that was not our goal, we had tried our best. It was tough revising our lines and actions, however, we managed to deliver the performance together as a team.”

“Being one of the cast members representing the school for the SYF has been a long and arduous journey. Even though there were days that felt like giving up, we rallied together and worked as a team. SYF has also helped my fellow CCA members and I to form a closer bond with each other and become one big family. Overall, the SYF experience is something that I would want to go through again.“
Hashini, Secondary 2F
“I am Hazril the actor that played the character "Peter" during our Drama SYF. I would personally say that the process of SYF was definitely very challenging. The whole crew and actors had a very difficult experience acting out our characters. Some of us, especially the newer actors did not have any experience in acting. Hence, it was very tough for us. Despite the challenges, I would say that the majority of us worked hard and persevered. We overcame several challenges together and played our part to ensure that the play would go smoothly. Overall, I would say that the experience of being in SYF was definitely very enjoyable and I would like to be a part of it once again.”
