A Journey through Time:
Exploring Singapore’s Past to Present
The National Museum of Singapore was abuzz with activity on March 27 as our Sec 2 students had an enriching learning experience. It was an experience which transported them into a different era, surrounded by artefacts that showcased Singapore’s rich history and how the different communities connected to make Singapore what she is today – a melting pot of diverse cultures.
In this cohort learning journey entitled “Artefactually Speaking”, students explored the museum galleries in independent groups. They were guided and facilitated by specially trained museum educators who were stationed beside some of the artefacts. The museum educators were tasked to share stories of the past with the students which deepened the students’ appreciation of the history and heritage of Singapore.
The learning journey was insightful and meaningful as it enabled the students to broaden their understanding of who they are as Singaporeans, and the significant role they play as members of a bigger community.
I found the visit very interesting and fun because I think learning about how people lived through the years is interesting. I feel bad for the people as they lived through natural disasters like floods. I also found out that housing in the past was not developed with many living in cramped conditions. I feel grateful as today I am living comfortably in my HDB flat with so many modern amenities around me.
