SPRINGFIELD CELEBRATES NATIONAL DAY
Springfield commemorated Singapore’s 58th birthday over two days in August with an array of various activities. First up on 7th August was the National Day lesson package which was held during CCE lessons in the classroom. Led by the form teachers, the students reflected and discussed this year’s theme - Onward as One. There were discussions on the evolution of National Day songs and the designs of national day parade fun packs that were given out over the years. Students were reminded of how this has increased the sense of belonging among Singaporeans and brought the nation closer together.
The national day celebrations continued the next day in the hall. Leading the way was the smartly dressed National Day flag party which comprised students from the various uniformed groups. Together with a group of flag bearers, they proudly marched into the hall and signalled the beginning of the next segment - the singing of the national anthem and the recitation of the pledge. The National Day Observance Ceremony was up next. Led by the Sec 2 CCA leaders, they presented the Recollections – to recall the past and present challenges faced by our young nation and how it has led Singapore to become a stronger nation today.
The hall celebrations ended with a video clip of the National Day message from Minister Chan Chun Sing and the singing of “Home” , a national day song favourite.
All in all, it was an eventful morning to remind us that we are proud Singaporeans, and we will move onward as one. This sentiment was echoed by CCA leader, Hazril from Sec 2F who shared “As I presented the Recollections to the school, I felt a sense of anxiety and fear for Singapore when I thought of all the struggles Singapore had to go through, but then, I feel really proud when I see how Singapore has overcome these challenges to be where we are today."
