O’ Level Results 2023
School Leader’s Message
The tension in the hall was palpable as the students anxiously awaited their results. The school leaders addressed the crowd which included the parents and highlighted that “academic results reflect their potential at a given point in time and not their worth for they are always work in progress.” It was a timely reminder for most students of this cohort who had admirably put in their effort to do their best. As such, Vice Principal, Mdm Yehidaah said, "We celebrated your adaptability, diligence and resilience to overcome challenges and the fact that you have given your best for the O levels."
Secrets to Success
Reflective and self-directed
For top student Matin Kai of Secondary 4G, it was his ‘mind-set and thought process’ that made him do well. When asked, he shared that, ‘I had self-awareness and I did constant self-critiques on the content I study, source of the content and how I am studying. I also try to mimic the people that are good (i.e. teachers and experts) by looking at the subject from their perspective and finding any tricks that can only be discovered with years of experience.’
Support of Teachers and Friends
Muhamed Talha Memon of Secondary 4F shared about how teachers and his friends provided the support that he needed. He claimed that, ‘Having the support of my teachers and a close group of friends helped a lot. I wouldn’t have been able to score as well as I did if it weren’t for my teachers putting up with my endless requests for consultations and their hard work in ensuring I improved constantly. Their consults were very personal and it didn’t feel taxing as I initially thought it would have. In fact, I found it very rewarding as not only could I improve academically, I could also foster stronger relationships with my teachers and get to know them better on a personal level.’
Steps Ahead
Matin also shared that he, “would like to go to Victoria Junior College (VJC) and if not then another JC with climbing or an outdoor activities club.” For Matin, he hopes to be in a place where he can make use of his creativity and intelligence like a workshop where I can make whatever I can imagine.` Talha on the other hand hopes to go to Temasek Junior College under the arts/hybrid subject combination. From there on, I’d love to go into study politics, philosophy and economics at NUS. For a long time, I’ve felt an intangible affinity for teaching. Combining this with my love for all things social sciences, I aspire to become a lecturer of sorts at either a polytechnic or a private university. Megan Wong hopes to be a dentist and also take the junior college route.
We would like to wish the Secondary 4 cohort all the best in their next journey.
Words of Advice from your Seniors of Class of 2022
For my fellow graduating students, always follow your passion. As Confucius once said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”. In the same vein, choose an academic path that you feel will be very rewarding and fulfilling. One that will certainly provide the motivation needed to overcome the inevitable hurdles and trials that you’d be bound to face on your journey to success.
Muhammad Talha Memon, Sec 4F
Have lots of wholesome fun while in school and enjoy the process.”
Matin Kai, Sec 4G
Hard work pays. “I remember waking up at ungodly hours of the morning to revise for the exam that I would have that very same day. I don’t think I’ve worked as hard as I did for any exam or anything in my life, but my O levels really changed that. I realised that to fulfil my dreams, I would have to sacrifice a lot so I wouldn’t regret not studying harder.”
