SFSS Celebrates World Water Day
In the first week of Term 2, Springfield Secondary School joined the rest of the world in celebrating World Water Day 2023. This annual event is dedicated to raise awareness for sustainable management of water resources.
To kickstart World Water Day in the school, a group of environment ambassadors from Sec 2 and 3 led the school in presenting a segment to commemorate World Water Day during morning assembly. They shared about the importance of sustainable management of water resources and how Singapore has built its robust, sustainable water supply from the four national taps.
Game booths were also set up and run by the environment ambassadors of each level. The booths were stationed in the canteen during recess periods. These booths featured games which focused on information about water conservation and location of the natural catchment areas. Both students and staff enjoyed themselves as they participated in these games and at the same time learned more about water conservation in a fun manner.
World Water Day 2023 is a reminder of the importance of water to our planet’s health and wellbeing. As the world faces water scarcity and climate-related challenges, it is important for us to practise and advocate sustainable water management to ensure access to clean and safe water for all. Springfield Secondary School partners the world in its efforts to bring about sustainable water management. Let’s do our part and make every drop count.
I think presenting the World Water Day segment to the school was quite nerve-wrecking, but I am happy as I did my best! The booths in the canteen were also popular with the students and I think everyone was having fun playing the games. As an environment rep for my class, I am proud to have played an important part in the celebration of World Water Day in school. Overall, this was a great experience for me. - Tiffany, Sec 3A
