Springfield takes to the Races
A school that runs together, stays together. That was the spirit behind our annual mass run at Bedok Reservoir. Combined with our National Day celebrations in the hall, we then split into competitive and non-competitive runs. There were prizes for the top three individual Lower and Upper Secondary runners, as well as the fastest classes. Our teachers also joined in on the fun.
Our fastest runner, Thompson from Sec 3G shared his tips – “My strategy was to push for the first half of the race and maintain a sustainable and suitable speed till the end of the race. My advice is to don’t ever give up. Just persist and you will make it.”
Some opted for a more relaxed and social pace. Ryan Ang, Sec 3G, shared that “One of the highlights was being able to talk and jog around the reservoir with my friends. I also enjoyed the nice view and weather as well as being able to see what the residents in Tampines were up to in the morning. There were some people exercising, walking, and doing water sports. I also learnt to have perseverance. I obviously could not have jogged around the entire Bedok Reservoir on my own. However, I could not give up so I had to persevere through.”
“One thing I learnt was to not sprint first but to slowly jog. Sprinting at the start will only make you tired.” – Putra, Sec 1A. These are fitting words indeed. They highlight that it is important to pace ourselves and not to burn out. With our friends and close ones, we can go far. You know what they say,
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”
