A student goes through many camps throughout their secondary school life. There are the introductory camps, their Outward Bound School (OBS) camp, CCA camps and many more. And then there is the Springfield Secondary Sec 2 CCA Leaders Camp.
The CCA Leaders Camp exists to build confident leaders and instill a sense of belonging and service into our future student leaders. Jam-packed with key highlights like Dragon Boating, Amazing Race and also fulfilling activities like litter-picking, supporting the Paralympic Games and of course, enthusiastic outdoor cooking and performances.
Unexpected Meaning
Meagan from Sec 2F shared that “We did a bunch of things such as dragon boating, the Amazing Race, watching the Gardens By The Bay Light Show, our Values-In-Action (VIA) project around Tampines, the Paralympic games, bidding for food, cooking our food, our cheer and dance performance and a few reflections here and there. I truly enjoyed everything at the camp. The highlight of the camp for me was surprisingly the VIA around Tampines. After doing the activity, I learned to be grateful and to care for others and our environment. The camp taught me values that I will never forget.”
Discovering Empathy
Eldrick from Sec 2E, also had plenty of wonderful things to say about the camp. He shared that, “I enjoyed the dragon boat activity and the Paralympics sports activity, especially the basketball activity. I enjoyed the dragon boat activity as I got to bond with my friends and make meaningful memories with my friends and teachers. I enjoyed the Paralympics as I got to experience how Paralympians play in the Paralympics. I realised that it is really hard to play basketball as it is more difficult to move around. The highlight of the Secondary 2 CCA camp was the night activities. The teachers bought Milo for us to drink and bread to eat, which was really nice. I enjoyed the Secondary 2 CCA camp, as I got to spend quality time with my teachers and my friends.”
Thrust into the Spotlight
Vellina of Sec 2F was the Master of Ceremony (MC) for the campfire night and really enjoyed her role. She commented that, “It was truly an exhilarating experience for me as I have never been in a camp as fun as this. The highlight of the camp for me was when I was the MC for the cheer and dance. It was such an experience for me as this was the first time I was emcee for an interactive show. It was really fun talking to people and presenting the slides. If given a chance I would really want to become the MC again!”
