Springfield achieves 4580 bowls of rice
725 participants (students and staff) who walked/ran a total of 1374 km over 1147 walks. This means that we have successfully contributed a total of 4580 bowls of rice! An annual event, it is Springfield’s whole school approach to giving back to society. For many, it also contributes to their aim of leading a healthy lifestyle. Said Mr Alwyn Koh, organizer of the whole school approach VIA project, “this event satisfies the twin objectives of keeping students fit yet be able to give back to society.”
Students walk their way towards a good cause
This year, students contributed to the less fortunate by walking during their PE lessons. Many felt grateful for the opportunity to do good. Said Valerie Poh of 1D, “I feel that “Walking for Rice ''is really a productive activity as we are exercising while helping the less fortunate to have food to eat. I feel like we should help the less fortunate as they are not as privileged as us. “For Ember Tan of 1B, the whole initiative is an excellent example of what giving and receiving is all about. She said, “I feel like it’s a win, win for both situations as walking is a good daily exercise. Also, the rice could be given to the less fortunate people. Helping the less fortunate people is also a good way of showing kindness.”
Teachers bonding
Through their allotted badge mate groupings, Springfield teachers also had fun as they walked 11km per group to reach the school’s target. Said, “Lim Jia Jing of the Champion team, “walking with our colleagues is an awesome way to bond as we try to take some time off our busy schedule and work together as a team towards a good cause.” These varied groupings which include all staff from Principal to teachers allowed for some team spirit and bonding amongst staff. However, for more others, it also meant setting goals and finding common time slots to make this possible. Said Lisa Zhang, SH of CCE, “anything can be achieved if you take it one step at the time.”
