START IT RIGHT
IN SPRINGFIELD
Springfielders began the 2023 academic year with the annual Start-It-Right (SIR) programme, Springfield’s unique programme which aimed to cover major components of academic learning, information technology engagement, positive classroom culture and personal, emotional & social well-being. With this aim in mind, each level had specially curated programmes that catered to their learning needs.
Secondary 1
For many Secondary 1 students, starting in a new school was an intimidating experience. The SIR programme however helped to allay their fears as the students made new friends through their participation in various outdoor learning activities which included dragon boat and cycling. A highlight of the SIR programme for the Secondary 1 students however was the CCA Experience. The students got a first look at the many CCAs that are offered in Springfield at the exhibition booths. For Ross Rafael Wong Geroy of 1D, “the CCA experience was very enjoyable and interesting and definitely helped me make my choice of CCA as it allowed me to experience the CCA.
The SIR programme ended on a high note for the Secondary one students as they enjoyed themselves at the campfire together with their parents who had come to grace the event.
Secondary 2 & 3
Unlike the Secondary 1 cohort, the Secondary 2 and Secondary 3 cohort started the school year afresh by engaging in several activities which promoted team bonding and reinforced class identity. The students especially enjoyed the energizer games which helped them to deepen friendships with their classmates.
The first week of school, we had the SIR programme. During the programme, we played a game called Bingo! I enjoyed this activity the most. The activity allowed me to communicate and interact with my new classmates. It really helped as I made new friends. The activity let me understand my classmates better.

For a group of students in the Secondary 2 cohort, it was indeed a fresh new experience as the SIR programme helped to ease them into a new environment in Springfield. For Bosco Lee, (Sec 2B) transferring to Springfield was initially overwhelming but the SIR programme helped him to ease into Springfield and enabled him to meet new friends.
Secondary 4 & 5
The seniors in Springfield engaged and participated in various important events during the SIR programme. The Secondary 4 and 5 cohort bonded as they spent the morning together in their class outings to East Coast Park and Sentosa. Besides this, the students also got to experience the life of a polytechnic student as they went on tours at the various polytechnic open house visits. For Fei Fei, Sec 4C, the visit to the polytechnic helped her to realise that there are many options available after secondary education and more importantly, she got to find out more about the available courses offered at the polytechnic.
